Krugersdorp Game Reserve.
One of the reasons for going here was not because it was good but that it had an Aviary which housed some amazing South African birds, whch my Dad loved.
The whole aviary was under neeting so in fact it was affected by the weather and not housed.
It is surprising what 4 years can do since I last visited Krugersdorp -- under new manangement and with the current economic climate I will say no more.
My first long trip although it will be the shortest of the whole holiday 140kms. Needless to say I made.
As I drove away from the reception it became clear that there was not the abundance of animals I remember. The monkeys were not in the trees, I did not go to see the lions but went to the Aviary. When I arrived and found the car park empty seemed strange and as I went to the gate thought it was looking delapidated so I was not altogether surprised to see the gates wired up prohibiting access. I walked around the outside and saw that the netting was down and the support towers had collapsed.
I decided as I could get out of the car I would take an early lunch break.
I am attaching images of Impala, A bird (Road Runner Variety), Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Ground Squirrels, Zebra, Gemsbok,Ibis, Egrets, Ostriches and Giraffes.
This visit gave me a chance to see how my camera gear would work and how distant I could be to get a good image. It proved interesting but the light gave me a few problems when shooting slightly into the sun. Do I have silhouette of the animal and a blue sky or a colourful animal and a burnt out sky.
Enough of my chatter so here are the images.
